A
30-acre woodsy campus, not far
from the Pacific Ocean, St.
Matthew's Parish School and
Episcopal Day School serves
children and families of the
Parish of St. Matthew and the
community at large. Founded in
1949, the school provides a
challenging and traditional
academic program, balanced by a
nurturing environment and
responsiveness to individual
differences.
Classrooms
for preschool students are in the
heart of the campus' rustic
setting. In Kindergarten, children
move up the hill, where they are
taught by two fully credentialed
teachers. Specialty teachers work
with the children several times a
week in art, music, physical
education, library, and science
education.
The
first through fourth grade
classrooms are also
self-contained. Teachers in
science, religion, music, art,
physical education, computer
science, and community service
support the efforts of the
classroom teachers. Homeroom
teachers coordinate the program at
each grade level with an emphasis
on reading, writing, and
mathematics.
The
core academic program continues
through middle school. Students
begin foreign language in 6th
grade with semester introductory
classes in Spanish and Latin. One
language is pursued in 7th and 8th
grade. All middle school students
participate in the intramural
program, and 7th and 8th graders
may join interscholastic
competitive teams in a variety of
sports.
Summer
session offers review and
enrichment classes.

The Westside
Waldorf School is a calm,
green oasis in downtown Santa
Monica. Trees and flowers are
plentiful in this unusual urban
school, and the students are
constantly involved in
ever-changing gardening projects.
Based
on the philosophies of Rudolph
Steiner, the Westside
Waldorf School was founded in
1988. Its curriculum seeks to
nourish the emotions and
imaginations of children, as well
as their intellect. Teachers use
art and imagination in their
approach to all the subjects.
The
classrooms are very different from
what you'd find in a traditional
school. Primitive toys made of
natural materials are the norm
here. Much attention is also given
to the decor in order to make the
environment calm and nurturing.
Preschool
costs range from
$275/five-week/parent & child
session to $3,685 for two
half-days/week in the Nursery
program (three full days/week in
the Nursery program is $7865).
Getting
there: From the 10
freeway, exit at Fourth Street
and turn right. Just as you cross
Arizona, in the middle of the
block, turn left into Parking
Structure #1. The school is
directly across the street from
the parking structure on the
grounds of the St.
Augustine-by-the-Sea Church.

At the Malibu Jewish
Center and Synagogue
Preschool both children
and parents feel special.
Thanks to Dede Solis, the
Preschool Director who has
run the program for years,
the school maintains a small
intimate feel and a happy,
eager learning environment.
You
don't have to be Jewish to
send your kids here.
Although Jewish holidays and
rituals are observed, the
school accepts all races,
colors, national and ethnic
origins - and not only that,
celebrates them. Everyone
fits in.
Children
ages 2 to 5 years are
eligible for enrollment. A
health record is required
and a personal interview
will be arranged. The school
calendar follows that of
the local school district.
In addition, the school is
closed on Jewish holidays
when the Synagogue office is
closed.
MJC
has a high ratio of
adults to children,
which provides an optimal
learning environment.
Every
Friday morning, children
celebrate Shabat with the
Rabbi and other special
guests.
A
school newsletter, The
Weebreeze, keeps parents
up-to-date on upcoming
events and offers parenting
tips and advice.
Teachers
are Early Childhood
education specialists, certified
by the Bureau of Jewish
Education.
Dance,
music, and computer classes
are integrated into the
program. Children are
encouraged creatively, and
there is always an abundance
of materials on hand for
children to explore, create,
build, and communicate.
Children
are encouraged to develop
their own self-image; the
focus is on exploring the
world, and developing
positive interactions with
peers. Constructive,
positive reinforcement is
always used.
The
playground is grass
and sand, with lots of fun
things to climb and little
areas to explore. Close
supervision and interaction
is provided at all times.
Parents
are always welcome, and
can visit any time. In
addition, they are often
invited to parties and
holiday celebrations, or
encouraged to visit for
Friday Shabbat service.
Cost:
The school is based on
the traditional calendar
year (Sep-Jun). 5 days: from

Since 1889, when Mrs.
Caswell founded the School,
Marlborough has devoted
itself exclusively to
preparing young women for
all the possibilities of the
future. Over time, those
possibilities have expanded,
so the School’s curriculum
has broadened accordingly to
accommodate our changing
world and the needs of each
new generation. On this
website you will find
information about the
School’s history, its
curriculum, and its alumnae
and students.
More
importantly, you will find
that Marlborough School is
so much more than the sum of
its programs. We have tried
to capture some of that
spirit in this format, but
it is difficult to describe,
or even show, what is truly
remarkable about
Marlborough. This community
is one that must be
experienced first-hand. I
encourage you to click on
the photos of the many
different students who will
share their personal
experiences and show you
“their” Marlborough.
Each has a unique
perspective and through
their collective wisdom, you
will learn not only what is
remarkable about our
programs, but what is so
extraordinary about our
School.
So,
whether you are a family
discovering Marlborough for
the first time as you
consider your options for
secondary school, or an
alumna rediscovering your
alma mater and reconnecting
with classmates, I hope you
will consider this website a
first step toward a visit
– indeed, toward a
life-long relationship with
the School.
